How To Fix: Keurig K-Supreme Descale Light Not Turning Off

How To fix keurig descale light

So you’ve decided to descale your Keurig K-Supreme (Or K-Supreme Plus), good for you! But now you’re running into a dreaded problem that most Keurig users run into when descaling their machines: The Descale indicator won’t turn off!

Why Your Machine Is Doing That

If your Keurig still says ‘DESCALE’ even after you done descaling, it means that you have not completed the process correctly. It will not brew until the process has completed.

Here’s What You’re Probably Doing Wrong

The Descaling process is a two part process:

first, using the water mixed with the descaling solution until it runs out.

second, adding the fresh water to rinse the machine out.

What I’ve seen many users do is: run each of these steps just once. What has to be done is repeat each step until the machine indicates that you can move on to the next step.

  • You will repeat step one, as in refill the reservoir every time it has emptied until the ADD WATER light comes on….
  • Start the rinsing process by adding water repeatedly until the DESCALE light goes off, which indicates that the descaling process has finished.

How To Fix Keurig’s Flashing Descale Light

1- Descale mode starts by pressing down the 8oz and 12oz buttons together for 3-seconds until the Descale light turns solid. You are probably already doing this step correctly..

2- Next step, press down the BREW button to start the process. This is where the machine will start drawing the water from the reservoir until it’s empty.

3- When the machine stops dispensing, the K button will start flashing, PRESS it again to start the process again. Repeat until the ADD WATER light starts flashing.

The majority of Keurig users think that the machine will draw water just once. But the machine actually does several 12oz fills until it thinks it cleared out all the descaling solution, that’s when it tells you to ‘Add Water’…

4- Last step is rinsing the machine with fresh water. Wash the reservoir to get rid of any solution residue.Fill the reservoir with clean water to the MAX line. Now, you’ll notice that the DESCALE light has turned solid again and the K is flashing. Hit BREW button and the machine will start the rinsing process. This step also has to be repeated until the DESCALE light finally turns off.

Details To Pay Attention To…

  • Make sure you have successfully activated the descaling mode in the first step. You’ll see the DESCALE light is on.
  • Make sure to always fill the reservoir to the MAX line.
  • DO NOT SKIP STEPS. Run each step until you see the indicator for the next step light on.

If you do each step as should, the descale light will go off on its own and the machine completely turn off indicating that it has existed the descale program.
